Spelling Bee

Reciting each letter from memory,
I tried to gather myself as I stood before the audience,
Silent stares proved no support as they awaited my full answer,
One letter away I froze, remembering the whole word,
Finally I sputtered an R only to hear the buzz of excitement,
The next round awaited me.
Every letter was a moment of life,
a chapter to the book that completed me,
and now that I was done,
The next word was ready to be determined.

*This poem suggests that the spelling bee is someone regathering their life. R is the last letter of my last name or the last chapter of my life.
